FAQ
At 5 Star Recon, we strive to make the process of repairing your vehicle’s paint damage as simple and stress free as possible. Here are some frequently asked questions:
Before my appointment, is anything required so that my vehicle can be repaired?
Yes, since we are completely mobile we will need the following to complete the repair:
- The vehicle keys are necessary to obtain paint code information and reposition the vehicle.
- At all mobile locations, we require a standard 120V electrical outlet to run our equipment and an outside water spigot. Please confirm these are available if you live in an apartment/townhome or at your office to ensure we can service your location.
- The vehicle exterior needs to be clean: free of dirt, grease, insects, sap, wax and polishes, to ensure we notice all damage needing repair and that chemicals don’t interfere with our products.
- The repair will require that the vehicle is easily accessible around the damaged areas to be repaired. So it should be parked away from other vehicles and buildings, preferably in an open space or driveway.
How long does it take to repair my damaged paint?
It depends on which service is needed since no two vehicles are damaged the same. Typically, you can expect most repairs will take a few hours, usually less than a day. However, factors such as weather, severity and extent of the damage, etc. can affect the time needed to complete the repair.
Is it safe for the environment to paint outside?
5 Star Recon strives to provide repairs as eco-friendly as possible. Since our repair processes differ from those of a traditional auto collision center, the EPA has granted us a 6H exemption, while we adhere to municipal, state, and federal regulations when it comes to the impact on the environment.
How do I determine if I need paint repair, touch up, or scratch repair?
It really depends on the severity of damage and your desired expectation of the repair:
Paintless Scratch Repair– The depth of scratches will determine whether to repair your vehicle by using our scratch repair process or by repainting the damaged area. A good rule of thumb is if you can catch your fingernail on the scratch, it needs to be paint repaired.
Paint Touch Up– Remember paint touch up doesn’t remove the damage, it fills in the damage. It protects the panel from the corrosive effects of weather, water, and chemicals. It also improves the vehicle appearance by taking your eye off unsightly chips and damage that otherwise would be easily noticed.
Paint Bumper/Panel Repair– Mobile painting is the most comprehensive service we offer, repairing ANY minor paint damage while minimizing the repair area.
Can 5 Star Recon paint and repair damage on ANY vehicle?
We have worked on domestic and imports, from high end luxury Porsche and Bentley to economy Ford and Kia. If something is outside the scope of what we do or we cannot meet the desired expectations, we will always be upfront and honest in what to expect.
Will 5 Star Recon process an insurance claim to fix my vehicle?
Since our repair services are typically 30-70% less than a body shop, our cosmetic repairs are usually less than a standard insurance deductible. By avoiding a claim you also avoid insurance rate increases and the diminished value reported on your vehicle. We make it affordable and easy by accepting cash, PayPal and major credit cards.
Does 5 Star Recon offer wholesale services to dealerships, auto brokers, recon centers, body shop partnering, etc.?
Yes, our mobile service is available. We can improve your bottom line by reducing your recon time and cost. We offer competitive pricing and flexible scheduling to facilitate in making cars frontline ready and improving customer satisfaction. Please fill out a form here to obtain more information.
On the day of my appointment, will bad weather affect my repair?
Colorado’s moderate weather provides a huge advantage since we repair and paint outside. Still, we are very mindful of adverse weather conditions such as falling moisture, severe wind, or excessively cold temperatures. If we feel it would compromise our quality standards, we will notify you as soon as possible and reschedule for a better day.
After the repair, can I drive my vehicle and how long before I can wash it?
Typically, if the vehicle was painted you can drive it within hours, though it is recommended to let it sit undisturbed overnight. Since the clear coat takes longer to fully cure, we recommend at least three days before you wash your vehicle and thirty days before using a pressure washer to clean it.
Will the cosmetic repair be as good as a traditional body shop?
Yes, 5 Star Recon has built its reputation on doing just that! We use the same high quality products that traditional body shops have. Using the manufacturer paint code located on the vehicle, we accurately measure and mix up the specific color of your vehicle. Since we do not have the expensive overhead of a bodyshop, we are able to pass on lower prices and faster turnaround times while still maintaining high standards of quality.
Does 5 Star Recon replace bumpers or damaged parts for vehicles?
If you are asking if we sell loose parts or bumpers, then the answer is “no”. If the bumper or other part needs replacing, you will need to purchase the aftermarket parts elsewhere. However, we can prep, paint and, in most cases, install any loose aftermarket plastic part. Just fill out a FREE estimate form.
Does 5 Star Recon repair ALL paint related damage?
To be transparent, our on-site process has limitations, depending largely on the severity and location of the damage. We specialize in only cosmetic, minor, non-collision repairs. Upon physical inspection, we will inform you of the expected result. Due to our high quality standards we do not offer any panel replacement, PDR, structural collision repair, paint stripping, chrome bumpers, or complete vehicle repainting.
Does 5 Star Recon offer a warranty?
Yes, we do! Our superior customer service means we stand behind our expertise, high-quality products, and techniques on all our retail paint repairs with a 5 year limited workmanship warranty, providing peace of mind!
